England

England played their final game of the season last night in the Port of Spain in Trinidad. The players can now go and have a well deserves holiday after a very long and demanding season.

The game was anything but demanding as England strolled to a 3-0 win courtesy of a brace from Jermaine Defoe and a first international goal for Gareth Barry.

Of course, the players will enjoy their holiday but how the must wish they were setting off to Austria and Switzerland to take on Europe’s elite at the European Championships.

For an England fan it will depressing watching the tournament and thinking about what might have been. We will watch a very average Russian side struggle in the tournament and wonder just how we managed to lose in Moscow.

However, we will also watch the Italians, Dutch, French, Germans, Spanish and Portuguese and realise that the reason we are not there is because we are simply not as good as these teams.

I’m going to enjoy the competition and admire some great teams. We mustn’t fail to qualify again. We need to be mixing it with Italy, not Trinidad and Tobago.
