Capello’s new dawn or same old, same old

The old guard

I think that Fabio Capello is the right man for the England job. I supported his appointment and I still think that if anyone can rescue the team from the depths they plummetted under Steve McClaren then he is the man.

I am slightly worried after two unimpressive performances and even more so now after hearing some of the things he has had to say prior to the game against the USA.

He says that John Terry is a leader and deserves the captaincy. He says that David Beckham is looking very fit and should be part of the team. He says that Frank Lampard will play and that he is a very important player for England.

So, Terry the captain, Beckham out wide and Gerrard and Lampard in midfield. What an imaginative change of personnel that is. Hasn’t Capello changed things!?

I know he doesn’t have too much to work with at this time but Terry, Beckham and Lampard cannot be the answer in the build up to qualification for the 2010 World Cup. They have all done a decent job for England but their time has gone. We need to see changes and we need to see forward thinking.

Capello is still the right man for the job but the jury is still out with regards to whether he can make any real difference.
