Chelsea v Manchester United - Champions League preview

Published by gf1124 at 5:18 am under Soccer - Football Edit This

Grant v Fergie

Chelsea and Manchester United play tonight in Moscow in the Champions League final. The two best teams in England and Europe take each other on for the crown of Europe’s best.

There is no doubt that the game will be tense and I’ll be very surprised if there are many goals. The pitch is recently re-laid and in poor condition and the weather forecast is for heavy rain. Don’t expect a classic in terms of open, free flowing football, but do expect some sublime individual skill and a tactical battle.

Manchester United will be looking to their three talismen, Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez to provide the goals, whilst expecting Ferdinand and Vidic to deal with everything thrown at them at the back.

Chelsea will be hopeful that Carvalho and Terry can deal with United’s threat whilst Drogba, Lampard or Ballack can provide the all important goals.

The managers are very different. Fergie has been there and done it. Twenty-one years at United and twenty-eight trophies in the cabinet at home. Grant, less than a year in charge and only Israelli trophies to show for his management career.

The styles of the two sides are a little different with United playing a more open style generally, but Chelsea are not as defensive as some reporters would have you believe. Of course, United could hardly be described as ‘cavallier’ when they played Barcelona.

It is a really difficult one to call, but 1-0 to United is my prediction. What do you think?
